Finding out someone’s ring size in secret
Looking to buy a ring as a present? It is tricky – but not impossible – to find out someone’s ring size without them knowing.
If they already own rings, your best option is to order our free ring sizer and compare it to their jewellery. Tighten the ring sizer until its diameter is roughly the same size as your recipient’s ring. This should provide a good estimate of their ring size.
Alternatively, take their ring to a jeweller and they will be able to quickly and accurately inform you of its size.
If the recipient would notice that their ring had gone missing for the day, another option is to see if the ring fits any of your fingers and ask a jeweller to offer you a ring size based on that. If the ring doesn’t fit you, and your fingers are bigger, you can slide it down as far as it will go and make a little mark where it sits. A jeweller will then be able to let you know what size is roughly correct. This same method can be used if you are using the ring sizer to measure.
If the person you are buying for doesn’t have any rings, or you can’t get hold of them, the best you can do is ask around for help. Maybe their family or close friends know their size. You can also ask someone who has similar sized hands what their ring size is, so at least what you buy will be in the right ballpark.
